Scrap Metal Thefts

January 3, 2024 by Cal Stoffel

The Sheboygan Police Department has been investigating a series of thefts from Sadoff Iron, a local metal salvage yard on the north side of the city. Valuable metal such as copper and red brass has been targeted during multiple, different incidents. Several thousand dollars worth of scrap metal has been stolen since the beninning of November. After a thorough investigation, an arrest was recently made on a suspect responsible for one of the thefts, and felony charges have been referred to the Sheboygan County District Attorney’s Office.

We are currently working closely with local salvage yards to implement preventative strategies to reduce their risk to victimization. Anyone considering stealing scrap metal should know that we take these crimes seriously and thoroughly investigate them. If you have information on scrap metal thefts, please contact our department or Sheboygan County Crimestoppers.

Scam Alert

December 15, 2023 by Cal Stoffel

A new scam has popped up in southeast Wisconsin. A number of people have reported being contacted by the FTC, “Federal Treasury Commission,” or “Treasury Agents.” The scammers convinced them to buy physical gold and ship the gold via courier. The agents promised that if the people wanted their money back it would be returned at anytime. The agents also told the victims not to tell anyone else, including local law enforcement. Over $500,000 has been obtained from two victims in SE Wisconsin over the past month.

This may seem far-fetched but the scam works. There is no such agency as the “Federal Treasury Commission” and a treasury agent will never call you and ask you to send gold or other physical money. If you receive a similar call, talk to a family member or call the police for advice.

We ask that you share this with your friends, family, and neighbors. If you have family members, friends, or neighbors that infrequently use the internet, please talk to them about this and other scams. As a reminder, no legitimate business, utility, or government agency will every require payment with physical gold, iTunes gift cards, or other unconventional payment methods.

Winter Parking Begins December 1st. Remember the simple rule; park for tomorrow!

November 30, 2023 by Cal Stoffel

Winter Parking Rules

From December 1st through April 30th, overnight winter parking regulations are in effect between the hours of midnight and 6:00 AM. Vehicles must alternate sides for overnight parking. The city’s winter parking rules are in place to improve efficiency in clearing streets from snow, ice and debris all winter.

On Odd-Numbered Days: Between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m., vehicles shall only be parked on that side of the street having odd-numbered street addresses (East and South Sides).

On Even-Numbered Days: Between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m., vehicles shall only be parked on that side of the street having even-numbered street addresses (North and West Sides).

Streets posted with “No Parking” restrictions shall remain in effect; therefore are NOT under alternate side parking rules.

***The simple rule: PARK FOR TOMORROW***

We appreciate everyone’s help in allowing us to prevent dangerous or slippery conditions for drivers and pedestrians, to keep gutters and drains clear for the spring thaw, and to maintain and repair pavement after the harsh winter season.

Snow Emergency Parking Rules

A snow emergency can be declared between November 1st to April 30th.

Parking of vehicles on designated snow emergency routes, boulevards, cul-de-sacs, and dead-end streets is completely prohibited during the period of a snow emergency. Vehicles can only return to the aforementioned streets after the City of Sheboygan announces the end to snow emergency operations. Vehicles illegally parked will be ticketed and towed.

When a snow emergency exists, vehicles parking on non-snow emergency routes between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 6:00 am shall only park on the even sides of the streets (north and west sides) on even days. When a snow emergency exists, vehicles parking on non-snow emergency routes between the hours of 12;00 midnight and 6:00 am shall only park on the odd sides of the streets (south and east sides) on odd days.

All streets with “No Parking” restrictions relating to parking on one side of the street shall follow odd/even parking rules during a snow emergency.

For more information regarding winter parking, snow emergency parking rules, visit https://sheboygandpw.com/winter-parking.
