The Beat Officer Position was created in 2016 in an effort to address neighborhoods in the city that have a higher need for services than others. This position consists of two Beat Officers who are assigned to specifically identified neighborhoods on the North and South side of the city.
Our Beat Officers engage in outreach activities within their assigned neighborhoods to build relationships, form partnerships, identify and solve problems. The officers work closely with residents to identify and solve problems. By working in a collaborative manner they will develop solutions that are specific to the neighborhood which will lead to both police and citizens accepting accountability for the problem solving efforts.
Concentrating on specific neighborhoods allows officers to identify people and properties that cause reoccurring problems. Beat Officers will develop plans and activities that will decrease the impact of those problems on the neighborhood, leading to a decrease in crime and an increase in social cohesion and collective efficacy within the Neighborhood.
