Thefts from Vehicle on the Rise – Secure Your Property

April 17, 2024 by Cal Stoffel

Sheboygan has experienced an increase in thefts from vehicles in the last week, and a handgun was stolen from one unlocked vehicle. These crimes of opportunity typically increase as the weather gets warmer. Help us prevent thefts from your vehicles by following these three simple steps:

1. TAKE YOUR KEYS from the vehicle. Virtually all stolen vehicles in Sheboygan are due to keys being left in the vehicle overnight or while running unattended.

2. REMOVE VALUABLES from the vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside of it. Your vehicle is less of a target if it doesn’t look like there’s anything inside worth stealing. Do not leave money, your purse, a firearm, prescription medications, and other valuables in your car.

3. LOCK YOUR VEHICLES and close all the windows. Almost every theft from a vehicle that happens in Sheboygan is made possible because the thief can simply open your car and take what’s inside. Locking your car works to keep thieves out.

Help us prevent these kinds of crimes and save yourself from being a victim of theft. Talk to your family and neighbors and remind them to lock their cars too!
