SPD Investigates Suspicious Death-Follow Up

November 29, 2018 by Mary Danen

On 11/28/18, Sheboygan Police referred a number of charges to the Sheboygan County District Attorney’s Office for review on a 16 year old male and the 29 year old female resident in connection with this investigation.  Sheboygan Police have determined that the victim, Matthew Mercure, overdosed while in the company of several subjects including the resident.  These subjects panicked and concealed the victim’s body.  Cooperating citizens called the police department upon learning of the event leading to the discovery of the body.  The incident remains under investigation and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Sheboygan Police at 920-459-3333.

11/21/18: Follow up:  The victim in the incident has been identified as Matthew Mercure, age 30, of Sheboygan.  The cause of death is still consistent with an overdose. Sheboygan Police are continuing to follow up on this incident.  Anyone with any information are asked to call Sheboygan Police at 920-459-3333.

On Sunday, November 18th, Sheboygan Police responded to a residence in the 1300 block on Michigan Avenue in Sheboygan after a citizen reported that somebody may have overdosed in the residence.  Police responded and conducted a search and no victim was located.  On Tuesday, November 20th, at approximately 4:30PM, police responded a second time after police received information from a citizen reporting that the overdose victim may be concealed in the residence.  Responding officers then located the body of a 30 year old male victim concealed in a crawlspace in the wall.   The victim has been identified however his identity is not being released based on the on-going investigation.  An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death however the death appears consistent with an overdose.   A 29 year old female is being held on a probation hold in connection with the incident.  The investigation is on-going and Sheboygan Police are asking that anyone with any information in connection with this incident contact Sheboygan Police at 920-459-3333.
