Sheboygan Police

Accepting Applications for 2026 Citizen Academy

February 3, 2026 by Cal Stoffel

The Sheboygan Police Department is now accepting applications for its free 30th annual Citizen Academy. This year, the academy will run from March 17, 2026 to May 26, 2026. Classes will take place Tuesday evenings during that time from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The Citizen Academy is designed to be interactive through lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises. The purpose of the academy is to provide stakeholders of the City of Sheboygan an understanding of the police department and its functions and to enhance relationships between the community and police department. Participants will be exposed to many areas of police work including the hiring process, current department initiatives, police investigations, use of force, and the legal system.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have no felony arrests or convictions. A parent waiver will be required for applicants who are 16 or 17 years old. Background checks will be conducted on all applicants. Letters of acceptance or regrets will be mailed to applicants.

The deadline to apply is February 28, 2026 as long as there are still openings. Please do not wait, as the class typically fills up quickly. We will reach out to all applicants after the deadline.

Visit our Citizen Academy page to apply.
