Sheboygan Police

Officer Shoots Suspect in Stabbing

June 3, 2024 by Cal Stoffel

A stabbing suspect was shot by Sheboygan Police Friday evening after charging officers while armed with a knife.

On Friday, May 31st, 2024 at approximately 5:09 PM, the Sheboygan Police Department responded to a report of two men fighting at a residence in the 1400 block of Michigan Ave.  After arriving, officers discovered that a 48-year-old Sheboygan man had been stabbed by another resident of the same apartment, a 32-year-old Sheboygan man.  The victim of the stabbing was transported by Sheboygan Fire Department ambulance to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect, who remained armed with a knife and refused commands to come out of the apartment.  After nearly two hours of negotiations, the suspect appeared outside the residence still armed with a knife and charged at officers.  After retreating and attempting less-lethal means of incapacitating the suspect, one officer fired their handgun, striking the suspect once and disabling him.  No other injuries were reported.

The suspect has since been taken by flight for life to a Milwaukee-area hospital for treatment, and is expected to undergo surgery.  The incident has been turned over to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office for investigation, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.  We appreciate the community’s patience while investigative work continues at the scene.
