Sheboygan Police arrested a suspect in a fatal stabbing Friday night after a standoff at the suspect’s residence.
On 7/5/24 shortly before 6 PM, Sheboygan Police responded to the 1700-block of S. 25th Street for a report of a 33-year-old Sheboygan man who had been stabbed by his 34-year-old roommate. The victim was initially assisted by neighbors and then officers evacuated him for transport by Sheboygan Fire Department ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts at the hospital, the victim did not survive.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home and the Sheboygan Police Department’s Emergency Response Team was activated to assist with efforts to take the suspect into custody. Officers continued to attempt to communicate with the suspect, who remained inside the home where the stabbing occurred, for several hours without any response. Eventually, officers used a vehicle-mounted ram to breach the front door of the residence and continued to issue commands for the suspect to cooperate. After several minutes he exited the home and was taken into custody.
The suspect was taken to the Sheboygan County Detention Center and is being referred to the Sheboygan County District Attorney’s Office for a charge of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide. The incident remains under investigation and the Sheboygan Police Department will be assisting the involved families with support services. There is no continued risk to the public.
The Sheboygan Police Department thanks numerous other departments who assisted at the scene and with the investigation, including the Sheboygan Fire Department, the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wisconsin State Patrol. The patience of neighbors in the immediate area while the incident was resolved was also appreciated.
